Endeavour is a Queensland based organisation supporting 3000 people with a disability.
Born out of the commitment and dedication of a group of parents to provide ongoing education and training to their own children with a disability, the Endeavour Foundation began as a self-funded and self-staffed ‘special school’ in 1952 on the verandah of a parent’s home in Coorparoo, Brisbane.
Such was the strength of purpose of these parents, that their organsation (then called the Queensland Sub-Normal Children’s Welfare Association) attracted the support and interest of politicians, educators and the general community.
The organisation grew rapidly and with a high level of community support, the Association established facilities and services, and sponsored the development of like-minded groups in regional areas.
In1982, the Queensland Sub-Normal Children’s Welfare Association changed its name to Endeavour Foundation.
In the space of thirty years, the organisation had developed into a state-wide body, offering a multitude of services to people with a disability.
In 1986 the Department of Education took over the role of providing education to children with a disability, leaving Endeavour to concentrate on the provision of development and support services to adolescents and adults with a disability.
Today, the Endeavour Foundation provides services for 3000 Queenslanders with a disability, and their families. The organisation has branches covering the whole state, has a large membership, and conducts many successful fundraising and promotional activities.
